The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) and Railway Recruitment Cells (RRCs) are responsible for the recruitments of the railways. 

RRBs have the responsibility of conducting recruitment for all Group C (Technical and Non-Technical) posts. Whereas, RRCs are given with the responsibility of conducting exams for Group D recruitment. 

There are total 21 RRBs and 16 RRCs. Recruitment to Group A and B posts in Indian Railways are done through Civil Services and Engineering Services Exam (ESE).

Railway recruitments are done for Non-Technical Popular Categories, Para Medical Categories, Ministerial and Isolated Categories, Various Posts in level 1 of 7th CPC Pay Matrix, various posts of Jr. Engineer, Depot Material Superintendent and CMA, ALP and Technicians, etc. Besides, the different railway zones also conduct individual recruitments for various posts as per their requirements.

Latest Updates on Railway Recruitment 2020-21

A mega recruitment drive is being conducted by the Indian Railways in three phases from December 15, 2020 onwards.

The First Phase of Computer Based Test for Ministerial and Isolated Categories is being conducted from December 15 to December 18, 2020.

The First Phase of Computer Based Test for RRB NTPC is scheduled to be conducted from December 28, 2020 till January 13, 2021.

The third recruitment is the RRB Group D exam, which will be conducted from April to June end 2021.

RRB Recruitment 2020-21 Application Process

To apply for RRB Recruitment 2020-21, keep the following documents ready and follow the below provided steps:

Pre-Requisites

  • Read the instructions carefully so that the candidates understand all the information in RRB notification to prevent any mistakes while filling the application form.
  • candidates must keep the scanned documents such as photograph, signature, SC/ST Certificate (if applicable) and scribe photograph (wherever applicable) in JPEG format ready.

To Apply for RRB Recruitment 2020-21, the candidates need to do a one time registration mandatorily after which the candidates can proceed to fill the application form.

Step 1: RRB Registration

  • Visit the rrb official website
  • Select the Railway to which you wish to apply.
  • Confirm that you have read and understood the instructions clearly by clicking the checkbox.
  • Click on ‘New Registration’
  • Enter name, date of birth, father’s name, mother’s name, Aadhaar Number, SSLC/Matric Registration Number, Year of passing, mobile number and email ID.
  • Candidates with ITI/NAC qualification can enter registration number/year of passing for ITI/NAC qualification instead of SSLC/Matric.
  • Before submitting the registration form, ensure and confirm that all the information is correct since it cannot be changed later.
  • The email ID used for registration must be unique.

Step 2: Verification of email ID and mobile number through OTP:

  • On submitting the primary details, the registration number and password are displayed.
  • OTPs are also sent to the registered mobile number and email along with the registration details.
  • Candidates need to enter the OTPs to proceed to fill the application form and make fee payment.

Step 3: Filling the application form:

  • Firstly, provide the details of educational qualification, community (UR/OBC(NCL)/SC/ST/EWS,Gender, Religion, Ex SM, PwBD, CCAA, Minority, Economically Backward, Class and Age Relaxation eligibility category as applicable and other details.
  • After that the candidates need to indicate his/her priority/preference of the posts.
  • On completion of application details, candidates will be redirected to the payment page.
  • Choose the payment mode – Bank (Online Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card/UPI and Offline Challan) or Post Office Challans and complete the payment.
  • Enter all the relevant information on the qualification as required in the application form.
  • Choose the language of the examination from the drop down list of languages.
  • After that the candidates will have to fill the details of a valid Photo ID card in the application form.
  • The photograph to be uploaded should be of size 35mmX45mm or 320 x 240 pixels in JPEG/JPG format.
  • The signature to be uploaded should be of 50mm x 20mm or 140 x60 pixels in JPEG/JPG Format and Size of file should be between 10KB-40KB.
  • In the end, candidates have to confirm the declaration. After confirming the above declaration and submission of application, candidates may save the file as PDF and take printout of the application form.

RRB Recruitment 2020-21 – Selection Process

RRB NTPC 

RRB NTPC Exam pattern is divided into 4 stages which are:

  • First stage CBT
  • Second stage CBT 
  • Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
  • Typing Skill Test

In First stage CBT, the test consists of three sections namely – General Awareness, Mathematics and General Intelligence and Reasoning. The total marks of first stage is 100.

In Second stage CBT, the total marks is 120  and 1/3 marks will be deducted for incorrect answers. 

CBAT: This stage comprises different test batteries consisting of five to six tests. There is no negative marks for this test.

Typing skill test: Candidates are given to type 30 words per minute (WPM) in English or 25 WPM in Hindi on Computer. Candidates cannot use editing tool and spell check facility. 

RRB Group D

RRB Group D Exam is divided into 2 stages CBT and PET.

The CBT will be conducted in 15 languages. The exam consists of four sections which are – General Science, General Awareness and Current Affairs, Mathematics and General Intelligence and Reasoning.

The duration of the test is 90 minutes and 120 minutes will be given to PwBD candidates. 

The test paper will have 100 objective type multiple-choice questions.

For every correct answer, one mark will be awarded and for every incorrect answer, 1/3 marks will be deducted.

PET is conducted for candidates qualifying the CBT. In PET, male candidates will have to lift and carry 35 kg of weight for a distance of 100 meters in 2 minutes. They should run for a distance of 1000 meters in 2 minutes, 4 minutes and 15 seconds. 

Female candidates should be able to lift and carry 20 kg of weight for a distance of 100 metres in 2 minutes. They should be able to run for a distance of 1000 metres in 5 minutes and 40 seconds.

RRB JE

The RRB JE Exam will be conducted in 2 stages.

The first stage CBT of RRB JE consists of  four sections. The paper will have 100 questions for a total of 100 marks. Duration of the test is 90 minutes (1 hour 30 minutes).

The second stage CBT consists of sections – General Awareness, Physics & Chemistry, Basics of Computers and Applications, Basics of Environment and Pollution Control and Technical Abilities. Total marks of the test is 150 and the duration of the test is 120 minutes (2 hours).

RRB Recruitment 2020-21 Admit Card

RRB admit card 2020 for various exams are released online on the respective websites of Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs)  around four days prior to the commencement of the CBT.

The candidates can download the admit card by logging in with user ID and password.
