New Delhi, July 23 | The Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank today announced that the admission criteria for admission to NITs and Central Funded Institutes have been relaxed for this year amid the COVID-19 crisis. The students applying for NITs do not need minimum 75% marks in class 12th exam. They only need a passing certificate of class 12 and JEE Main rank to get admission in NITs and CFTIs.
NITs Admission Criteria Relaxed – Announcement
The HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank tweeted the changes in criteria stating “Due to prevailing circumstances, Central Seat Allocation Board (CASB) has decided to relax the eligibility criterion for admissions to NITs and other CFTIs”
He further tweeted that “JEE Main 2020 qualified candidates will now only need to obtain a passing certificate in class XII examination irrespective of the marks obtained”.
NITs Admission Criteria
For admission in NITs and CFTIs, a student needed to qualify JEE Main and score a minimum 75 % marks or rank among the top 20 percentile in their board exam.
Since this year there has been disruption in board exams and results for various board exams have been declared using internal assessment or averaging of marks. The announcement to relax the class 12th marks criteria seems fair and well timed. This will relive the anxiety of students who are already stressed due to postponement of JEE Main exam. JEE Main is scheduled from September 1 to 6.
